FAQs

What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a form of therapy that focuses on exploring the unconscious processes and patterns that influence a person’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. It often examines how past experiences — particularly those from childhood — shape personality and relationships, helping individuals address unresolved conflicts and long-standing patterns.

How do I know if psychotherapy is for me?

Psychotherapy can be beneficial for anyone experiencing emotional distress, mental health difficulties, relationship problems, or challenging life transitions. It may be worth considering if your daily functioning is affected, if you feel overwhelmed or unable to cope, or if you are struggling with persistent difficult emotions.

What can I expect during a session?

Sessions offer a confidential and non-judgemental space to explore thoughts, feelings, and concerns with a qualified therapist. Katie listens carefully and helps clients explore and better understand their internal world and patterns of behaviour.

How long does psychotherapy typically last?

The duration varies depending on individual needs and goals, and can range from several months to a number of years. It is a collaborative decision between client and therapist, guided by the client’s goals, progress, and ongoing needs.

How often should I attend?

Sessions are held on a weekly basis. Weekly attendance provides consistency and allows for ongoing progress and support. Each session lasts 50 minutes.

How do I find the right therapist for me?

The best way to assess whether a therapist is right for you is to arrange a consultation. This gives you the opportunity to experience how they work and to reflect on how you feel in the space.

What happens if I miss a session?

Consistency and commitment are important for therapy to be effective. Once a regular time is agreed, missed sessions will be chargeable. Occasional rescheduling may be possible at Katie’s discretion.

Is therapy confidential?

All sessions are strictly confidential. Katie attends regular supervision, as required by her professional bodies, where information may be shared in order to ensure best and ethical practice. Information is never shared with third parties without client consent, except where there is a risk of serious harm to the client or others, or where required by a court of law.
